The World Earliest Report Of Dramatic Production Comes...

The world earliest report of dramatic production comes from the banks of the Nile river in Egypt. It is in the form of a stone tablet preserved in a German museum. It contains the sketchy image of a man named Ikhernofret who was a representative of the Egyptian King. It shows the role he played in a performance of the world s first recorded Passion Play somewhere around the year 2000 B.C. Egypts main form of public performance, theatre and producing were passion plays up untill then end of 1600 when new types where introduced. Passion plays in the 1500 s worships are praised the Egyptian King Osiris. According to the historical legend, Osiris ruled wisely. He was violently murdered and his body was cut in pieces and scattered. Although not many props where used it is said by historians that statues and pillars where part of the background scene in these plays as well as weapons like knifes and rocks. Storie: Once upon a time, a long time ago when the earth was new and everything was just beginning, the earth was covered with water. An egg floated on the water, just one egg. When that egg hatched, Ra was born. Ra did not want to spend his time floating around, doing nothing, so he flew into the sky and became the sun. Ra dried up much of the water and made the land. Ra was lonely, so he made a wife. He named her Nut. Ra made many gods and goddesses to keep him company. He put them all to work. His children were very busy running the world. Still, they took time out to have children, because children were glorious things to have! Soon, there were many gods and goddesses. Entrepreneurship Education A Comparison of Canada and...

Entrepreneurship Education: A Comparison of Canada and Sweden from the 1980’s to Present Day. Research Question What is the comparison of entrepreneurship and the state of educating entrepreneurs between the countries of Canada and Sweden and the effects on entrepreneurial levels and successes within the specific timeframe of the 1980’s to present day? Entrepreneurship is one of the main foundations of many countries economies historically and it plays just as crucial of a role in the present day. Dr. Howard Stevenson of entrepreneurship studies at Harvard School of Business defines entrepreneurship as â€Å"the pursuit of opportunity beyond resources controlled†. There are similar papers publish comparing the state of entrepreneurship in Canada to the United States as well as some European countries. So previous research has been done in this comparative fashion but none has been done to directly compare the countries of Canada and Sweden in this manner. My research as also discovered papers focusing on specific elements of the entrepreneurial ecosystems in both Canada and Sweden. In my initial research I mainly focused on papers that pertained to the education of entrepreneurs in both Canada and Sweden. The Government offices of Sweden produced a report that was a joint effort by their Ministry of Education and Research, Ministry of Enterprise, and Energy and Communications. The report outlines the need to â€Å"integrate entrepreneurship throughout the educational system† and the measure taken to do so in the Swedish educational system. (Bjà ¶rklund, Leijonborg, Olofsson, 2009, p. 1) In this report the government outline fourteen different points of importance in their goal of integration and provides a short summary of how each point has or will be accomplished and instituted. DIALOGUES OF THE DEAD Essay Example For Students

DIALOGUES OF THE DEAD Essay A monologue from the dialogues of Lucian NOTE: This monologue is reprinted with the authors permission. All inquiries should be directed to the author at: [emailprotected] HANNIBAL: I think we can all agree that the highest praise is due to those who have fought their way to greatness from obscurity—who have pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps—clothed themselves in power, and proven themselves worthy of that authority. I entered Spain with only a handful of men, fought bravely, proved myself a leader, and eventually—as a result of my exploits—was honored with the supreme command. I conquered the Celtiberians, subdued Western Gaul, crossed the Alps, overran the valley of the Po, sacked town after town, made myself master of the plains, approached the bulwarks of the capital, and in one day slew such a host that their finger-rings were measured by bushels, and the rivers were bridged by their bodies. Unlike Alexander here, I never pretended to be a god, never related visions of my mother—I made no secret of the fact that I was mere flesh and blood. My rivals were the most capable generals in the world, commandi ng the best soldiers in the world. I never warred with Medes or Assyrians, who fly before they are pursued and yield the victory to anyone with the courage to take it. Alexander, on the other hand, in increasing and extending the dominion he inherited from his father, was merely following the path set out for him by Fortune. This â€Å"fabled conqueror† no sooner crushed his puny adversaries in the victories of Issus and Arbela, than he forsook the traditions of his country and lived the life of a Persian, accepting the worship of his subjects, handing his friends over to the executioner, or even assassinating them at his own table! I always respected the freedom of my country—never attempted to subjugate her for my own personal glory. I answered when she called. And when the enemy with their huge armament invaded Libya, I laid aside the privileges of my office and submitted to my sentence without a murmur. Yet Alexander would call me a barbarian because I’m uns killed in Greek culture—because I couldn’t recite Homer. I admit, I never enjoyed the advantages of Aristotles instruction like he did. I had to make due with such qualities as were mine by nature. And it is on these grounds that I claim pre-eminence. I do not deny that my rival has all the luster that attaches to the wearing of a diadem, and I’ve been told that, for Macedonians, such things have charms. But I refuse to believe this constitutes a higher claim than the courage and genius of one who owed nothing to Fortune, and everything to his own resolution.

What makes Romeo and Juliet a tragedy, and who or what is responsible for it Essay Example

What makes Romeo and Juliet a tragedy, and who or what is responsible for it? Essay The author of the play Romeo and Juliet is William Shakespeare. It was written between 1594 and 1596. The play is a tragedy. This means a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force (as destiny) and having a sorrowful or disastrous conclusion that excites pity or terror. The main people affected in this play are Romeo and Juliet because they are the ones who die as a result of the situation they are in. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy because there is a feud between two families and two people from these families fall in love with each other and get married in secret. In the end they both kill themselves due to circumstances that I am going to explain in this essay. The Prince of Verona didnt play a big part in the deaths of the main characters because all he did was banish Romeo from Verona. After Mercutio and Tybalt were killed he said And for that offence/ immediately we do exile him hence.I will be deaf to pleading and excuses,/ Nor tears nor prayers shall purchase out abuses:/ Therefore use none. This is when he finds out Romeo has killed Tybalt. The Prince tells Romeo not to give any excuses because he wont take any of the reasons into account. This ban from the city caused many problems for Romeo and Juliet because they could not see each other. Even though he agreed to marry Juliet he didnt think twice that she wasnt ready for marriage or even the face that she had never met him before. There are no quotes that I can use to support my thoughts. When Romeo came back to Verona when he had heard that Juliet was dead Paris challenged him to a fight at Juliets tomb. He thought that Romeo was there to destroy the tomb. Romeo ends up taking up the challenge and killing him. Fate is one of the least responsible reasons for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Although it played a part in the tragedy it wasnt one of the major factors of the suicides. It was fate that the teenagers met each other. They met at a party at the Capulets house. Romeo was walking through the streets of Verona when he came across one of the Capulets servants. The servant said to Romeo, God gi god-den. I pray sir, can you read? The servant is basically asking Romeo if he can read the invitation to the Capulets party. He is then told to come if he is not a Montague. An big part that fate plays though is when Friar Lawrence asks Friar John to send a letter to Romeo telling him about the reunion of him and Juliet. Unfortunately this letter could not be delivered to Romeo because of the plague going round at that time, (nobody was allowed to cross into Mantua). This was a big reason for the deaths because the note that Friar Lawrence had given to Friar John could not be delivered to Romeo so he hears that Juliet has killed herself. In a way Mercutio is partly responsible for the deaths of his best friend and Juliet. The reason for this is because he said, Heres my fiddlestick, heres that shall make you dance./ Zounds, consort! He is challenging Tybalt to a fight. He goes on to say O calm, dishonourable, vile submission!/ Alla stoccata carries it away. Tybalt, you rat-catcher, will you walk? In this quote Mercutio is basically saying to Tybalt Are you going to fight me or walk away? Tybalt decides to challenge him and the result is Tybalt kills Mercutio. After that Romeo kills Tybalt. This will be explained properly in the ext paragraph. Tybalt is equally responsible as Mercutio for the death of his cousin and Romeo. When Mercutio challenged him he said, You shall find me apt enough to that, sir, and you will/ give me occasion. By doing this he wanted to be provoked by Mercutio. He challenged him and ended up killing him. By doing this Romeo got involved. Tybalt said, Romeo, the love I bear thee can afford/ No better term than this: thou are a villain.Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries. That thou hast done me, therefore turn and draw. He is explaining to Romeo that he is a villain and nothing else. Romeo kills Tybalt and as a result of the murder he is banished from Verona. This causes Romeo and Juliet to separate. This is one of the reasons why they both killed themselves. The Capulets (Juliets family) did not play that big a part in the death of the their daughter and Romeo. Although there are a few reasons why they are responsible. The first one being the fact that they tried to force Juliet to marry a man she didnt even know. Her father told her .go with Paris to St Peters Church,/ Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither./ Out, you green-sickness carrion! out, you baggage!/ you tallow-face! At this point in Act 3 Scene 3 Juliets father is telling her that if she doesnt marry Paris he will drag her to the church. He goes on to say, Hang thee, young baggage, disobedient wretch!/ I tell thee what: get thee to church aThursday./ or never after look me in the face./ speak not, reply not, do not answer me!/ my fingers itch.We have a curse in having her,/ out on her hiding! In this speech, Old Capulet insults Juliet saying that he and Lady Capulet were cursed with having her. He says this because Juliet is objecting to the idea of marrying Paris because sh e is in love with Romeo. Later on in Act 3 Scene 5, Juliet goes to her mother for help, instead she refused to help her daughter by saying, Talk not to me, for Ill not speak a word./ Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee. This part if the conversation has made Juliet feel as though she has no one to help her out of this marriage. The feud between the two families was a big problem and one of the main reasons why the Romeo and Juliet died. This reason is because both Romeo and Juliet knew that neither of their parents would agree to the marriage. The chorus in the prologue says, Two households, both alike in dignity. From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,/ where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. This quote is giving a description of the two families; it says that civil blood makes civil hands unclean which tells us that there have been a few killings or fights before between the two families. A quote in the play that tells us the families do not get on is when Tybalt says to Benvolio, .I hate hell, all Montagues are thee. This basically tells us that Tybalt hates the Montagues as much as he hates hell. Another of Lady Capulets speeches that we can say could be have led to the deaths Romeo and Juliet is when She says, Ill send on in to Mantua.shall give him such an unaccostomd dram/ That he shall soon kee p Tybalt company. She says to Juliet that she will send poison to Mantua for Romeo to drink. She then says that once he has taken it he will join Tybalt wherever he is. This is an important reason and a big input to the deaths because at this time Juliet was married Romeo and her mother was talking about killing her daughters husband. Obviously Romeo and Juliet played a part in their deaths but I dont think that they were mostly to blame. I say this because they were only teenagers at the time of the marriage. They were both very sure that they loved each other. Romeo said, Then plainly know, my hearts dear love is set/ On the fair daughter of rich Capulet.we wood and make exchange of vow.but this I pray/ That thou consent to marry us today. This is when he explains to Friar Lawrence that he loves Juliet and asks if he can marry the two of them. Straight after Juliet had met Romeo, he overheard her saying, .wherefore art thou Romeo?/ Deny thy father and refuse thy name;/ Or if thou will not, but sworn my love,/ And Ill no longer be a Capulet. In this speech Juliet says that she wants to marry Romeo. She is on her bedroom balcony and he has snuck into the back garden that is how he heard her. This shows that Juliet loves Romeo. The day they get married Romeo kills Tybalt and he confesses to Friar Lawrence by saying, [my] cursed hand/ Murderd her kinsman. When Romeo is in Mantua he hears that Juliet is dead. He goes to an apothecary to get poison. He said, Come cordial and not poison, go with me,/ To Juliets grave, go there I must use thee. This is what he says after he has got the poison from the apothecary. It means that he is going to Juliets tomb and take the poison so that he dies as well. But what he doesnt know is that Juliet has just taken a potion that makes her sleep for twelve hours. When she awakes, she sees Romeo there dead. She says, O happy dagger,/ This is thy sheath;/ there rust, and let me die. She says this as she stabs herself with Romeos dagger. Juliets nurse (Angelica) played an important part in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. She is responsible for many reasons. She plotted with Juliet and encouraged her to marry Romeo. She said to Juliet Then hie thee to Friar Lawrence cell,/ There stays a husband to you make a wife.I am drudge, and toil in your delight. She is telling Juliet that Friar Lawrence has agreed to marry her and Romeo. As an adult she should have known better than to plot behind the Capulets backs. Instead she should have told Juliet that the marriage would only cause more problems if both the Montagues and Capulets found out about it. She also said, Hie to your chamber. Ill find Romeo/ To comfort you, I wot well where he is./ Hark ye, your Romeo will be here at night. This is what Juliets Nurse said to her when she was arranging the wedding night. All this scheming was making the situation a lot worse because it brought the two teenagers closer together. Then Angelica decided to side with Juliets parents when she was told to marry Paris, I think it best you married with the county./ O, hes a lovely gentleman!/ Romeos a dicout to him. She was telling Juliet that Romeo is nothing compared to Paris. After all of the lies and schemes to get Juliet and Romeo married, she decides that the Capulets plan is a lot more suitable for Juliet. The main character who is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Lawrence. He is to blame for several reasons. The first reason being when he says, .Ill thy assistant be:/ For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your households rancour to prove love. This is when he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet. He has agreed to marry them knowing they havent had consent from their parents. His moral obligation as a Friar aswell as an adult should have been to advise Romeo and Juliet about their dilemma, and should have refused to marry them. In thinking that this marriage will fix what is wrong between the two families. When Romeo is banished from Verona, Friar Lawrence told Romeo to just go and he will try and sort things out. When Romeo had gone off to Mantua, Juliet was told the news that she will marry Paris, and as she had no one to confide in she went to Friar Lawrence. He had a plan that Juliet would take a liquid that would stop her heart beating for twelve hours. He said, Thou take this vial, being then in bed,/ And this distilling liquid drink thou off.In the mean time.Shall Romeo by my letters know our drinks,/And hither shall he come, and he and I/ Will watch thy walking, and that very night/ Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua. This was the plan he had devised. He thought not only would it get Juliet out of marrying Paris, but it would also reunite her and Romeo. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy because there are a lot of deaths. Two of the deaths are of the main characters, Romeo and Juliet. I think the least responsible person for their deaths is the Prince of Verona. The second least responsible is Paris. Fate is the third least to blame for the deaths and the fourth is Mercutio. I think Tybalt is as equally responsible as Mercutio. The Capulets and the feud between the Capulets and Montagues are also equally to blame. Romeo and Juliet are seventh to blame, as it was their idea in the first place. I think Juliet nurse is eighth responsible for the deats of the two teenagers. Friar Lawrence was the most responsible for the two deaths because he plotted and schemed all the way through the play, from the very beginning to the very end.

Current International Issues Between China and U.S

Current International Issues Between China and U.S Introduction The world is currently facing many global issues. These issues despite their size and weight usually lead to either positive or negative effects. Some of these global issues, if not well attended to, may cause conflicts between nations and possibly affect global economy. This calls for proper diagnosis of any arising issues so as to make sure that they are properly and adequately solved.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Current International Issues Between China and U.S specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For instance, the booming economy of China has substantially threatened the markets and investment opportunities previously explored by the U.S (Reus-Smit 344). This paper is an exploration of how China’s fast economic growth has impacted the policies of the United States. Global issue between China and U.S.A The United States of America has for a long period of time been known as the most powerful n ation in the world. It is famous for its high stable economy which every nation yearns to achieve. China on the other hand is a largely populated nation that in the past had a very low Gross Domestic Product (Beeman 1). However, the situation has changed in the recent past as China’s economy has tremendously gone up placing her in second position after U. S.A. The rapid growth of China’s economy was greatly influenced by its government which made reforms in the major sectors of the economy. Looking at the rate at which China’s economy is growing it can be forecasted that it may overtake the economy of the U.S (Fry and Jacinta 336). Due to the fact that China is fast rising in terms of economy and the military force, there has been conflict between China and the United States of America. This conflict is what the whole world is focussing on so as to bring harmony between these two nations (Steinberg 1). A detailed look at the amount of grants and aid despatched b y U.S.A to other nations shows its importance to the entire world. The same case applies to China because of its endless list of imports and exports. The current president of U.S.A, President Obama has been the ring leader in the initiative of engaging with China (Seabrooke 304). He has campaigned for peace within the two countries telling his nation to give China a warm welcome as it is a successful and hardworking country. He further tells them that incorporating China as an ally will lead to positive results including a prosperous future for their young generation.Advertising Looking for essay on international relations? The last time she was in China, she highlighted on three major issues that needed the unity of both nations to handle. She talked of security issues especially on solving the political matters of countries like Iran and North Korea (Steinberg 1). The other issue was on climatic problems like biodiversity and lastly the current economic crisis in the world. Conclusion The conflict between China and the United States has, with time, led to a harmonious relationship between the two countries. This has, in turn, led to positive impacts on the global economy and a good relationship between the two nations. Development of the relationship was necessitated by the fact China is becoming a major rival of the United States in exploring international markets and investment opportunities. In a nutshell, China’s rapid economic growth has obliged the U.S to seek alliance with the former in a bid to phase out unhealthy competition for international opportunities. An image, a tweet or Facebook post, an experience, another person's actions, a blog post you read, a client question, a business struggle, or even a talk at an event could inspire a new idea. Create a place to write down your blog post ideas so you have them to pull from in the future. You could do this in a multitude of software programs, in a journal, or even on your phone. I keep a plain text file on my desktop and I use the Notes app on my phone. But here's the kicker: You can't just write down the idea or the headline. You need to add context to the idea and create a mini post outline. This often takes far less than 10 minutes, and it takes all the stress out of writing the post later. Here's what to write down when a new blog post idea strikes: The topic or idea. Any possible headlines. How you came up with the idea. Any story that may fit with it (this is a lifesaver, as you think you'll remember it, but you may not). The link to your inspiration source if appropriate. Inspired by a tweet or Facebook post? Snag the embed code so you don't have to hunt for it later. The key message you want to communicate in the post or major bullet points. Any image ideas. Don't overthink it. Write down everything you can about the topic at that moment, and don't worry about writing in complete sentences. Don't edit yourself now; you can do that later when you're writing the final blog post. This exercise is just about getting the meat of the post out of your head. When you write down your blog ideas, you need to capture more than just your headlines. If you do this every time you have a new idea for a blog post, you'll build up a valuable idea file full of blog posts that are already halfway complete! Then when you need to write a post, you can grab one from your file, finish it up, and hit publish! 2. Work Better Under Pressure? Set A Timer. I love timers. I love the feeling of the clocking ticking down, the pressure on, and a task to complete. A challenge was accepted, adrenaline kicks in, and I'm thinking let's do this. I often do my best work under pressure with a deadline. I tune out all distractions, focus, and get things done in a much shorter amount of time than normal. Using a timer is merely a faster, more effective way of time blocking tasks. So, if you're like me, you may benefit from using this same approach when brainstorming blog post ideas. Here's how it works in only 10 minutes: Choose one topic, set a timer for 3 minutes, and brainstorm as many headlines as you can on that single topic. Don't edit as you go. Don't second guess. Don't stop or slow down. Every idea is good. Write it down no matter what. When the timer buzzes, stop. Set the timer for 1 minute and in that time, review each headline, circling the best ones (shoot for at least two or three). Set the timer for 6 minutes and in that time, quickly outline the blog post content for each headline. List what content to include, image ideas, story ideas, key messages to communicate, the problem it solves, and why someone should care. If something doesn't come to you for a headline right away, skip it and move on. At the end of this exercise, you'll have at least a few great posts on your topic that are already halfway done. You just need to finish them up later. Need help? I LOVE this exercise. I created a fill-in-the-blank headline guide with more than 200 Mad Libs style headlines to help me quickly brainstorm great headlines with little effort. I just set my timer, fill in the blanks for as many as I can, and then loop back and set my timer again to fill in the content notes for each one. You can download it free (no opt-in needed). 3. Hate Writing? Speak Your Post. I don't know about you, but many of my great ideas don't come to me when I'm conveniently in front of my computer or at home with a journal nearby. And sometimes I can't write them down- like when I'm driving or in the shower. If you can't write down your ideas, or you simply don't like writing- that's okay! You can still create blog content regularly without writing. All you need to do is speak. Yes, you can speak your content- and often do it much faster than writing it. Everyone can talk out loud. It's easy! When we speak, we don't judge, delete, self edit, or criticize ourselves like we do when writing. Plus it is MUCH easier to edit and refine existing content than it is to write it from scratch. Sometimes you just can't write down your blog ideas. Speak them out loud. When you've got a great blog post idea, simply grab your smartphone, your computer, a digital recorder, or use a service like freeconferencecall.com to record your post ideas. Then have the recording transcribed. It's that easy- and you can do it less than 10 minutes. 4. More Of A Visual Person? Start With The Imagery. If you're a visual person who is inspired more by imagery, it's okay to start there. I get great ideas for new posts when looking through stock photo sites and search for images with my brand keywords or the topic I am interested in writing about. But be careful- this can be a huge time suck. You may start looking at images and find that hours have gone by in what seemed like minutes. Here's how to plan a blog post using visuals in 10 minutes: Set a timer for 4 minutes, visit your favorite stock photo site, and search for images on your topic.  For every image you find that gives you a post idea, note the image number, and either add it to a lightbox or download it. When the timer buzzes, stop. Set the timer again for 6 minutes and write down the headline or post topic and all the notes, thoughts, and ideas you have for each image. (Use the same list I shared with you on #1.) Plan a blog post using visuals as your inspiration. When I find an image that inspires a new blog post, I download the image, crop it, and upload to my site. I then create a new post, assign the image, and make all of my post notes in the draft. This way, I can come back to the post and finish later, and I don't have to worry about finding the image again because it's already done and added to the post. 5. Stumped By Technology? Grab A Pencil. Many people are shocked to hear I brainstorm, make notes, and plan out my blog posts with a good old fashioned pencil and paper. Often I'll write an entire article by hand, then refine and edit it when I type it up. Some people just find that their creativity flows faster and easier on paper instead of in front of a screen. If this is true for you, own it. Get yourself a new sharp pencil or a great pen and some quality paper, or a beautifully designed journal. Then write and write some more- it doesn't have to be full sentences or complete thoughts. Here's what I recommend: Get your pen or pencil and paper and find a comfortable, quiet, cozy spot free from distractions. Set a timer for ten minutes. Write down the topic a blog post topic at the top of your paper. Then write down everything you think of- possible headlines, stories, examples, bullet points, key messages, problems and solutions, resources, and more. Write until the timer runs out. In this scenario, you're focusing on really fleshing out all of your thoughts, ideas, and opinions on one single topic, instead of a few different topics. This approach is often my go-to strategy for mapping out the content for longer, more in-depth blog posts. Challenge: For 3  weeks, 21 days, set aside 10 minutes each day to complete this exercise, writing down a different topic each day. Not only will your writing get better and you'll get faster at generating ideas, but 21 days is the length of time it takes to create a habit. Creating a habit of daily writing and idea generation will benefit both your business and your blog. Create A Repeatable Process And Stick With It If creating new blog content has been tough for you in the past, I highly recommend you give each of the five different ways to plan  blog posts a try to see which one is easiest and most successful for you. Remember, the more detail you provide about your topic up front, the faster and easier it will be to write the full blog post later.

Training Responsibilities of Supervisors and Managers Dissertation

Training Responsibilities of Supervisors and Managers - Dissertation Example The supervisors and managers, therefore, have a responsibility to look after the needs and aspirations of the employees who work under their aegis and are trying their utmost to give in the best, on a proactively consistent basis. The training realms within any organization remain significant in entirety because the training modules teach so much more than merely training the employees. They tell them the basics related to conducting their respective chores, tasks, and undertakings. They also dictate the exact basis through which work processes get manifested in entirety. What is even more significant is an understanding that the supervisors and managers play their necessary roles at inculcating the kind of training that is needed by the organization in essence. The HRD department is therefore dependent on the supervisors and managers but what is ambiguous is the fact that these supervisors and managers are not a part of this HRD philosophy at all. The supervisors and managers hold t he fort for the organization when it comes to training and its imparting for the sake of the employees who are present in different departments of the organization. The organizations, therefore, find the best ways and means through which the HRD can become an independent department and work on its own to achieve the end objectives and results; all of which remain significant on a proactive basis. The list of responsibilities might comprise of preparing training procedures and plans for the employees, drafting policies which can tell them exactly what to expect of their relevant domains both in the short term as well as in the long run, and coordinating with clients and stakeholders on a constant basis. The training procedures are important to ascertain because these take into consideration the aspects of inculcating the true spirits of the organization on to the employees who remain significant during such undertakings. The supervisors and managers need to come out of their related realms to make sure that the employees are on track and are able to complete their jobs in a proper way.

Person Centred-Care Essay Example for Free

Person Centred-Care Essay It’s important to promote person centred values as no individual is the same and everyone’s needs are different. Therefore we need to show that we have taken into account the individual as it will make them feel more valued and appreciated. It gives a personal touch to our standard of care. Another reason for the importance of promoting person centred values, is to make not just the service user feel valued but also make the families feel that we are taking on board their knowledge and understanding of the service user, in order to give him/her the best care possible. Consent: see more:define person centred values nvq 2 Consent is giving permission to do something, with an individual either taking part in an activity or accepting some kind of care or treatment. It is a legal requirement that consent is established before any intervention or caregiving activity takes place. Establishing consent is one way care workers can demonstrate they respect the individual and the individual’s personal dignity. Consent can be given in a number of ways; verbally, in writing or through actions. You may also have informed consent, such as perhaps by raising an arm to be supported when dressing, and thereby imply consent. Informed consent is given when the individual understands what they are consenting to. If we’re unable to gain consent you will go to the person allocated such as a social worker, next of kin (family) or advocates/solicitor.

Oppression :: essays research papers

Definition Paper   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Oppression, to divide and conquer is your goal. Oppression, I swear hatred is your home. Oppression, you mean only harm.†   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  -Ben Harper   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Oppression is this and so much more than what Ben Harper wrote in his song. Oppression is an unjust or cruel exercise or action of power. Everyone experiences oppression at least once in his or her lives. We have only recently begun to fight the effects of oppression, to gain freedom in our world. Oppression divides us to keep us from maintaining our freedom, what little of it we have. Oppression is completely based on hatred and preys on you when you sleep, or when you are at your lowest point. It kicks you when you are down, and pushes you further down the rabbit’s hole. It forces you to fight when you are the weakest and will take your very last breath. It takes one problem and snowballs until you can not take it anymore. We can learn to fight oppression, if we only make ourselves aware.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Oppression is not a friend, though it may be disguised as one. It takes what you believe in and makes it nonexistent. Oppression is what makes life hard. It tests you to see if you will make the stand for freedom, or be oppressed. African-Americans were oppressed for hundreds of years, and when it couldn’t get any worse, they found and fought with their leaders for what they believed in, freedom. Both the Egyptians and Hitler oppressed Jews for 5000 years, when he decided to wipe out their entire race. Women were oppressed for many years until they decided to fight for equality. Israeli Palestinian Conflict

What is the big deal about It? Why is it so important? The big issue is that in 1967, Israel claimed land after winning the Six Day War which the Palestinians now want back. This land, the Gaza Strip and West Bank, is considered contested territory, and both the Israelis and Palestinians are settling In It.A multitude of solutions to this conundrum have been proposed: the one-state solution, the two-state solution, the here-state solution, and the list goes on. These solutions are all based around the distribution of territory between the groups. I for one support the two-state solution which would divide the territory to form a Palestinian state separate from Israel. My first reason for this solution is that the one-state solution, which is rather popular. Wouldn't accomplish anything. Both groups wish to gain something for their own people, and one state shared between the two of them would undoubtedly cause more violence. Both the Jews and Palestinians have terrorist groups that co mbat the opposite nationality. These groups consist of average citizens in the area who claim to represent their people, so, we can infer, each nationality has at least some sort of, either miniscule or massive, inbred aversion to each other. They would continue to fight within this state's borders with even more ease. With as much rivalry as they have for each other, one state allowing free movement of these individuals would only make anti-Semitic or anti-lilacs terrorism easier.Another reason for the two-state solution Is to protect Israel's existence. One can assume that since groups like Hams are the semi-organized authority over the Palestinians, and these groups don't recognize Israel's authenticity as a country, many Palestinians don't recognize Israel. As a result of this, if there were to be one shared state, the Palestinians would have even more reason not to recognize Israel and to undermine the Israelites authority. Also, most people In the region support an end to viol ence and look forward to an era of peace. The best way to achieve peace would be through separating both nationalist groups into two distinct democratic states. They wont have anything to fight over, and a common goal between the two would be achieved. An article by The Jerusalem post noted that, In a poll, â€Å"63% of Palestinians and 70% of Israelis express their support for an end to violence, an Increase of 2% for Israelis and 5% for Palestinians over last year. † Many against the two-state solution may argue that two separate states cannot peacefully coexist when the Arabs don't recognize Israel's existence. While this statement does have some merit, the main reason for this, in my opinion, Is due to the Palestinians' forced reliance on fellow Arab states. The Palestinians were driven out of their homeland and Into other Islamic-Arab nations, This only gives them 1 OFF reason not to accept Israel. It Israel were to allocate land tort a Palestinian state, the Palestinians might lessen their rivalry towards and may even exhibit support for Israel. Another opposition to my standpoint is that nobody has definitive right to the contested land.Miramar Gadding, former dictator of Libya stated, â€Å"†¦ Neither the Palestinians, nor the Jews can be called the rightful or historical owners of the land. There have been many people on that land, and it would be best to accept that they would simply have to live together, as Jews have been able to live amidst Muslim people†¦ † Unfortunately, the Holy Lands have strong significance to both groups. However, if the Holy Lands were evenly distributed between the Jews and the Palestinians and the borders were to be officially recognized, both groups could be appeased. They would both maintain a piece of the land their Holy scripts were based off of, but they wouldn't be forced to live alongside one another. Finally, we can compare the two most prominent resolutions, the one-state solution and the two -state solution, side by side. The two-state solution will develop two independent countries, and, while the land allotment may not be ideal, it would resolve the warfare between both groups. The One-state solution would give both roofs equal rights to all of the land, but it wouldn't stop the Palestinians or the Jews from battling over prominence in the territory. If we use an analogy to represent this impasse, we can relate Israel and Palatine's relationship as a cancer patient, the two-state as chemotherapy, and the one-state solution as palliative care. If we treat the â€Å"patient† with â€Å"chemotherapy', they have a favorable chance of getting better, although they will suffer unfavorable drawbacks. On the contrary, if we treat the â€Å"patient† with â€Å"palliative care†, they will feel better for an indeterminate amount of time, but assuredly die eventually. In conclusion, the two-state solution, although not perfect, is the least flawed of all the proposals to resolve this contention.

Creative Retention Strategies That Are Used by Organization Today

With the fast changing economic & market conditions, companies are facing very high pressure to perform which require them to have the best people to work with, to retain their experience minds; they want to be the most preferred employer in the eyes of their prospects (future employee). To retain their best talent companies are adopting various creative strategies. According to DQ-IDC recent survey on the reasons that make people change the job, the most important reason was salary & compensation but apart from that Career Development, Location, Flexibility of office hours, Job Security, Organization Culture & Welfare policies emerged as the main reason of changing job. There is not much change on the attrition front we have seen even after following many strategies; the biggest attrition rate is still in IT industry which is 18%, followed by banking & financial companies. The average retention rate has dropped from 82% in 2007 to 79% in 2008. Now when we look what companies are doing to retain their employees, we can find many interesting thing. Some of the creative retention strategies/practices followed by companies are 1. Flexi timing: – Many Companies are following this technique like Aditi technologies, Sap Labs etc. It seems these companies have got the right software of flexible timing. 2. Fun @ Work:- Many companies have made fun an integral part of the working & their companies values, some of them have linked the fun with their performance appraisal system like Wipro BPO, Acclairis Business solution pvt. Ltd., VCustomer Corp. etc. 3. Training & Development opportunity: – Many companies have understood that their people are the most important assets that’s why they want a continuous up gradation of their employee through short term training & development programmes. 4. Respect Your Employee: – When we look at the recent survey on â€Å"Employee retention† we can find respect & recognition at the work place has emerged as the one of the main reason of changing job. Almost every company is trying hard to pay due respect to their employee by many programme. On the spot award, Self Appraisal, Foreign trips, â€Å"Get well soon† Flower bouquets for ill employee or family members are such programmes to show the respect towards the employees. 5. Empower Your employee: – It is not a matter of surprise that Marriott Hotel India every employee is called â€Å"Associates† and the â€Å"Sir† culture is absent there, Associates are empowered enough to take decision, the same way RMSI who have freed his employee to calculate their own performance bonus, at any time on the internet. 6. Bridge the Gap:- Programmes such as â€Å"Coffee with GM† in Marriott Hotel, â€Å"Good Morning Qualcomm† in Qualcomm, Breakfast meeting by CEO etc Are tool to improve the communication & fill the communication gap between Manager & their subordinate & also to bring fairness in the system. 7. Work with Friends: – Many companies like Perot System hires 40% of the employee through employee referral channel to create a friendly college like environment & to bring a sense of belongingness among the employee. 8. Best Reward System:- Many organization started self chosen reward system in which an employee could decide his/her own target & reward, organization are adopting 3600 performance appraisal system to bring the fairness in appraisal system. Apart from above example I have seen many interesting example like Mind Tree consulting’s â€Å"Baby’s Day Out† programmes, Antakshri programme, Departmental Day Outs, Annual Spring party, Sabbatical for social services, Cadbury day, Dhoom machale etc. are some example followed in different organization to control the attrition. After looking all the above aspects in nut shell companies should keep in mind the most widely accepted HR definition which is the best mantra to retain the employee & that is—- â€Å"The genuine concern of people†.

The Role of Gender

The Role of Gender Free Online Research Papers Whom do you see when you look in the mirror? I do not know about you , but I am sure about myself. I am a woman in my body and soul. I never thought deeply about gender role before writing this essay. After reading few essays, I am sure,we need harmony in our lives which is a balance of all elements that present us as a whole. Once the individual is liberated from a confined gender role , he gets more freedom to understand who he is and chooses whom who he wants to be. This freedom of his choice ultimately leads him to a harmonious and a balanced life. Since harmony leads to happiness , then society starts to consist of satisfied individuals, instead of disturbed ones. That is why both male and female look for a partner that can bring this harmony into their relationship. In Becoming Members of Society : Learning the Social Meaning of Gender , Aaron H. Devor explains differences between gender and sexuality. Gender is typically based on anatomical differences between men and women, but does not necessarily match with them. Gender role â€Å" may be changed without changes being made to biological sex characteristics† . Gender is socially and culturally determined; it is not biologically determined. Gender roles can influence all kinds of behavior, such as choice of clothing, choice of work and personal relationships; for example , parental roles. Everyone since childhood absorbs â€Å"the generalized standards of society into their personal concept of what is correct behavior† . â€Å"History shows us how completely our gender derives from cultural myths about what is proper for men and women to think , enjoy , and do.† Howe ver, during childhood and adolescence, gender identities which differ from the norm are often the cause of ridicule, mockery , and banishment, which often results in psychological problems. Some are able to camouflage their differences, but others cannot. Even though people have become more tolerant, there are still some who are not willing to except things out of the norm which is why the society has not gained the balance it needs. I agree with Aaron H. Devor who writes : â€Å"As children, and later adults, learn the rules of membership in society, they come to see themselves in terms they have learned from the people around them.† I am not an exception from them who â€Å" learn their culture’s social definitions of gender and gender identity at the same time that they learn what gender behaviors are appropriate for them† . I grew up in the USSR where article 35 of the Soviet Constitution clearly stated that women and men have equal rights and possess equal access to education and training, employment, promotions, and remuneration and to participation in social, political, and cultural activity. My mother and I , as most married women in the Soviet Union , worked outside the home in addition to fulfilling their roles of wife, mother, and homemaker. As in other industrialize d countries, Soviet women had difficulty adjusting the demands of career and home. At home, Soviet women spent more than twice as much time on housework as men. Finally, the idea of Clara Zetkin and Eleanor Marx who â€Å" were against the demonization of men and supported a proletarian revolution that would overcome as many male-female inequalities as possible† has led to women to exhibit masculine characteristics , to the ideal of the Soviet woman who will stop a galloping stallion, will enter a burning house(N.A.Nekrasov from poem â€Å"Russian Women†).Women became courageous, aggressive, heroic, bold who did not need protection and helping from men. Is it bad or good? Maybe for society , it is good because educated and strong women would be useful for its economy. For the individuals, I do not know. However, I miss Bunin’s , Pushkin’s, Tolstoiâ €™s woman who is feminina, affectionate, and tender. So, for the most part, Soviet women lost the many qualities of being feminine. â€Å" The clusters of social definitions to identify persons by gender are collectively known as femininity and masculinity† . What are femininity and masculinity ? Basically, it is not a difficult question for anyone because we are adults who have our own meaning about these words. According to Devor , every gender role has his own characteristics : â€Å" masculinity usually characterized by dominance and aggression, and femininity by passivity and submissionâ€Å"; â€Å"masculine thirst for power, which can, but need not, lead to aggression, and the feminine quest for harmony and communal well-being, which can, but need not , result in passivity and dependence.† . I think that this statement gives us a point of view about our natural roots which we all have. Devor writes that the dominant gender schema in North American society â€Å" leads us to believe that female and male behaviors are the result of socially directed hormonal instructions which specify that females will want to have children and will therefore find themselves relatively helpless and dependent on males for support and protection† . What does the dominant gender schema mean ? This cultural schema is a matrix of rules which govern the organization of sex, gender, and sexuality. In outline, those rules teach members of their societies to believe that sex, gender, and sexuality interact in a dichotomized and biologically deterministic fashion. Thus, according to the dictates of the dominant gender schema, all persons can belong to one, and only one, sex throughout their entire lifetimes, and all persons automatically and permanently belong to their corresponding genders. (from Devor,H. (1997).†Female Gender Dysphoria : Personal Problem or Social Problem?†) If liberation in Western society gives all people freedom for making choice of their gender role, how do these rules work? How is it possible to choose between both gender roles when the individual is multifarious? â€Å" It is possible to point to multitudinous exceptions to, and variations on, these themes† . For example, nowadays we have a lot of new words which characterize uncounted gender roles and whose definitions I do not understand well. There are Transgender, Transsexual, Crossdresser, Gender Queer, Intersex, Two Spirit, , Kathoey, Drag King, Drag Queen, Queer, Lesbian, Gay, Straight, Butch, Femme, Faerie, Homosexual, Bisexual, Heterosexual . When Devor uses the term gender, he refers to persons social statuses as women, girls, men, boys, or variously transgendered. In contemporary North American societies, genders are generally assumed to be direct social demonstration of persons sexes. However, when Devor uses the term gender, he does not share that assumption. Rather, when Devor calls people women, men or transgendered , he assumes only that they demonstrate enough femininity or masculinity to make them recognizable as women, men or transgendered. Devor does not assume anything about their sexes without further information (from How Many Sexes? How Many Genders? When Two Are Not Enough, 3rd Western Canadian Sexual Health Conference, Edmonton, Alta, May, 1998.). So, everyone in Western society has to choose his own gender role because we have many options to choose from in order to retain balance in ourselves. Now we have many versions of gender role, but this variability is not understandable for me because I grew up and matured in society where the individual had to choose only one from two gender roles : â€Å" All persons are either male or female. All males are first boys and then men; all females are first girls and then women† . But I understand other people and I am sure that every individual should have his own choice of his own gender role. Our world does not have only white and black colors, it is multicolored. Everyone should find harmony and balance inside himself because it is one of the part of our happiness. And I am sure that after he will find his own life’s partner , who will complete him as whole. So, it is good for the individual. I am sure, if the every person , who has found his own balance , becomes more pol ite and patient to others’ choices , our society will become more harmonious. So, it is good for society. Certainly, gender revolution gives us liberation from binary and permanent vision of gender. For example woman’s revolution leads to â€Å"equality between the sexes†¦.But we need to recognize that there have been both gains and losses in this revolution† . I think, this equality leads to wipe off the definition of gender at all. I very often hear a word, that is new to me- unisex which means gender-blind. But I do not like that. I like to be a Woman who needs a Man . For me, dependence on a man is not a bad thing because it is not submission or worship. I like to evoke the romantic feeling and to be ladylike in mans’ eyes . I do not want to be â€Å" strong and aggressive- like men† . I think that the woman’s power is in her weakness. But it is my choice . Certainly, women’s revolution brings bear on s ociety and , as a result ,† a woman today has the choice of every occupation that used to be reserved for men , plus traditional women’s role.† It is not too bad. On one hand, an educated and strong woman should be useful for society, its progress and evolution. But on the other hand, now feminists go too far and as a result I see men’s discrimination. I know some examples: women may get marred at younger ages than men in Ukraine and some U.S. states ;men pay higher premiums for auto, health, life and disability insurance. I think that for balance in our life we need equal opposing forces as a result after the fight at both antipodes. If a woman chooses masculinity, what kind of partner will give her a balanced relationship? What kind of a partner completes a strong and a manlike woman for balance? Someone gives an ansver : we need to go back to nature . Basically, I agree with Mansfield completely , when I read his words: â€Å"For the most part, men will always have more manliness than women have, and it is up to both sexes to fashion this fact into something good† . But I think, we should find harmony and balance in our life, but first everyone should find his own equanimity and understand himself. Then , when you look in the mirror , you will know who you are. 5 Arabic Words in the News

5 Arabic Words in the News 5 Arabic Words in the News 5 Arabic Words in the News By Daniel Scocco An article in this morning’s newspaper contained the following Arabic words: bidoon djellabah Salafists Shiite Sunni â€Å"He was identified as a member of the country’s large stateless population known as bidoon.† 1. bidoon The word does not appear in either the OED or M-W. I found this definition in an article at PBS: Bidoon refers to a diverse group of people [in Kuwait] who at the time of independence were not given Kuwaiti nationality. The term comes from the Arabic phrase  bidoon jinsiya, â€Å"without nationality.† A Wikipedia article spells the word Bedoon and defines it as â€Å"an ethnic group in Gulf Arab states and Iraq.† â€Å"[He] was wearing jeans, a knee-length djellabah robe [sic] and a loose towel over his head† 2. djellabah I didn’t find this word in either the OED or M-W, but I did find it at Dictionary.com: djellabah: a loose hooded cloak, typically woolen, of a kind traditionally worn by men in North Africa. â€Å"French authorities say Salhi had links to radical Salafists- who preach an ultraconservative form of Islam† 3. Salafists A Salafist is an adherent of Salafism. I found this definition of Salafism in an article at PBS: Salafism  is an ideology that posits that Islam has strayed from its origins. The word salaf is Arabic for â€Å"ancient one† and refers to the companions of the Prophet Mohammed. Arguing that the faith has become decadent over the centuries, Salafists call for the restoration of authentic Islam as expressed by an adherence to its original teachings and texts. â€Å"The Sunni extremists of Islamic State consider Shiites to be heretics† 4. Sunni The OED defines Sunni this way: The orthodox Muslims who accept the Sunna as of equal authority with the Quran, considered collectively. Note: The OED defines Sunna as â€Å"the body of traditional sayings and customs attributed to Muhammad and supplementing the Quran.† â€Å"Authorities said he flew into Kuwait’s international airport at dawn on the day of the noontime attack at one of the emirate’s oldest Shiite mosques.† 5. Shiite In this sentence, Shiite is the adjective form of Shia, a Muslim sect whose name derives from Shiat Ali, â€Å"the party of Ali.† When Muhammad died in 632 CE without naming a political successor, some of his followers thought his son-in-law Ali should be their leader; others declared for his father-in-law, Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr served as the first caliph (632-634); Ali served as the fourth caliph (656- 661). Today, the majority of Muslims are Sunnis- somewhere between 85% and 90%. Shiites represent only about 10% of Muslims, but in Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, and Azerbaijan, they are in the majority.   Note: Caliph is from an Arabic word meaning successor. After the death of Muhammad, it became the title given in Muslim countries to the chief civil and religious ruler. The last caliph in Istanbul was killed by Mongol conquerors in 1258. The Ottoman caliphate was abolished by Kemal Ataturk in 1924. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Get a subscription and start receiving our writing tips and exercises daily! Human Resource Planning in Hospitality Assignment

Human Resource Planning in Hospitality - Assignment Example It is through the Human resource planning process the extended personnel costs can be reduced by anticipating shortages and surpluses. Human resource planning provide informed base for planning employee development (Human resource planning). Human resource planning covers all the aspects of matters related to the organisation personnel from recruiting and selecting to staffing, training, employee involvement, empowerment and conflict resolution. The first and most important task undertaken by the Human resource department is the recruitment of the employees. It is important to identify the position's requirement before undertaking the task of recruitment. This in turn helps to find the most suitable candidate. Better selection of the employee leads to the performance improvement of the firm. In case of recruitment and selection process the firm and the employee exchange information. The firm provides the candidates with the information regarding the objective of the company and the tasks related to the job. On the other hand the candidate describe his capabilities. The main purpose of the business and the organisation is to project the positive image of the firm, highlight the benefits attached to the job and the future prospects of development in the organisation in shape of promotion and increase in compensation. The process overdone can lead to higher and unrealistic expectations of employees, which can lead to the lower efficiency and output level in case of the lower expectations fulfilment. On the other hand the management should elicit from all the applicants an objective demonstration of their knowledge, skills, abilities aptitudes motivation and past performance. (Koontz and Weihrich, 1993) There are two sources of employees' recruitment, which can be classified, as internal and external. By filling a job position from the internal source i.e. by transferring or promoting an employee has a positive effect on the morale of the employee the candidate has relatively more information regarding the job process. So it is relatively beneficial to undertake internal recruiting prior to external recruiting. In case the present employees cannot fulfil the job specifications than the firm must go to external sources or in other case if the firm needs workforce expansion. The firms are available w ith several outside sources to attract the candidates. First and the most important source are the advertising. The companies give their advertisement in the media read only with the information about the company; the job specification can be included in the ad to permit some self-screening. Second important source is the job postings on the company web site. Since the advent of the information technology most of the firms have their official presence on the Internet in shape of web sites. There is a special section on these web sites, which provide information about the company and the job requirements, and the current job postings needed to be filled by the company. The job application forms can also be filled online and after the application form analysis by the company management short listed candidates are contacted. Third are

Contract Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 4

Contract Law - Essay Example A contact is reached when one party makes an offer and the other one accepts that offer. It is imperative to note that a deal is considered an offer only when the party making that offer shows intention of being bound. This is different to an invitation to treat (Poole, 2012). Invitation to treat is just an invitation for an offer but it is not legally binding. An example of an invitation to treat is where goods are displayed on a shop. Contacts could be either legal or illegal. An illegal contact cannot be enforced by a court of law according to the English laws. There are laws that offer guidance in determining which laws are legal and which ones are illegal. Forming an illegal contract has its consequences under the English law. This essay will explain the laws that relate to legality of a contract. It will give an explanation of illegal contracts as well as the consequences of forming illegal contracts. The essay will conclude by giving recommendations on the importance of the re forming the laws of contract. Laws relating to legality This section of the law is said to be one of the most confusing are of contract law. One of the major reasons as to why it is never clear is the fact that it lacks structure. It is usually very difficult for authors to classify the various heads of illegality. This area of law is said to be unsatisfactory and is usually very contradicting. According to the principle of legality, all laws are supposed to be clear, they should be easy to ascertain and should not be retrospective. Laws should allow decision makers to be certain in whatever decisions they make by applying laws that are declared before. In addition, laws should allow the decision makers to make decisions without altering the legal situations through discretionary divergence from the established law (Poole, 2012). Contracts which are rendered illegal A contact that does not meet statutory requirement is rendered illegal. Such contracts are regarded as illegal if they are likely to cause harm to the public or to the society (Poole, 2012). Any person who is accused of being involved in an illegal contract is likely to face consequences before the court of law. It is important to note that a contract may be lawful by itself but the parties who make an agreement may do it in an illegal manner. The following contracts are rendered illegal under common law; a) Contracts to commit a crime or to commit a civil wrong There are contracts that are aimed at committing a crime or something that is not according to the law. A contract that is deliberately aimed at committing a crime cannot be enforced by the law. However, there are situations where the parties are not aware that the contract they are about to engage in will lead to a civil wrong. Such a contract is not considered as illegal and is enforced by the law. In addition, there are situation where one party is aware that the contract will lead to a civil wrong and the other party is innocent. In suc h a situation, the innocent party will not be at fault by relying on the contract (Poole, 2012). b) Contracts that lead to corruption acts in public life These are contracts that are aimed at committing a corrupt act in the public office. For instance, it a contract is aimed at selling a public land or public property, then that contract is illegal and is not enforceable. In addition, a contract that is aimed at acquiring a tittle of honour illegally is also considered illegal and is no

The Seccombe book discussion post Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Seccombe book discussion post - Essay Example However, this is not the case as it creates an impression that the people will always receive welfare support whenever they are in need. This impression makes some of the women lazy and hence making it difficult for them to find meaningful ways of supporting themselves (Seccombe, 40). It also creates an impression that the people will always be provided for. It therefore affects the mentality of the people. On the other hand, it is also important to note that welfare provision creates a wrong impression among the people that their needs will always be catered for. The provision of welfare also makes it difficult for the people think that the system is the only provider for those who are in need. In countries whether the welfare is provided to the people, the dependence on the system is quite high. The people will always complain when the system fails to carry out a certain activity with regards to the welfare. The presence of such complaints is an indication that the people are fully dependant on the system. The women in the society are mainly affected when it comes to the dependence on the welfare. The women are vulnerable in the society and they are more likely to seek the welfare services. Some of the divorced women are not employed any yet they have to look after the children (Seccombe, 206). This means that the welfare is the only source of livelihood that they can rely on. This reliance makes them completely dependent on the system. As a result of this, they will always want the system to intervene in any situation that affects them. The women in most cases feel that no one can address their needs apart from the system and hence the full dependence on the system. The women in most cases feel that they are being appreciated by the system through the provision of the welfare. This contributes to their full reliance on the system. The provision of welfare

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Social Networks

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Social Networks Table of Contents Introduction Advantages of Social Networks Disadvantages of Social Networks Influence on people in the future Data Collection and Analysis Recommendation Bibliography Appendices This research report has answered the questions i.e. what is social network? What are the advantages and disadvantages of social networks? How social networks will influence on people in the future? The research report will specify in the fields of education and business, which are two of the most important fields in the modern world, as parts of advantages of social networks. On the other hand, the report will highlight the major problems of today world such as online crime and addiction to social networks as primary disadvantages. Besides, there are analyses and predictions concerning with the dominance of social networks and how they will influence on people in the future. Justification The main reason for choosing this research topic is because my interest lies in that field. Besides, I am intended to specify my study in telecommunication engineering, which is a branch of my major study, electrical engineering, at the University. Internet can be said as the base of telecommunication systems and social networks are extensions of the internet. For all these connections and reasons I chose the topic in the question. 1.Introduction 1.1 What is social network? A social network is a social structure made up of a set of actors (such as individuals or organizations) and complex set of the dyadic ties between these actors (Wikipedia.org) Social media is any form of online publication or presence that allows end users to engage in multi-directional conversations in or around the content on the website (OnlineMatters.com) Social media and social networking focus on two-way interactions, between the site (or the person running the site) and the people reading or using it (Salpeter,2011,p.6) Two-way interactions means that comments are allowed in that blog and there could be interactions between the writer and anyone who give comments. 1.2 History of social networks 1.2.1 Evolution of internet The internet technology was introduced in the 1960s. The forerunner of the modern Internet was called ARPANET and it was created in 1969 by a worked for the Advance Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in the U.S Department of Defence. Basically, they just wanted to build an electronic communication system that could carry military data without disturbance. In 1971, an engineer Ray Tomlinson, invented the first electronic mail (e-mail) program. Twenty years later, in 1991, British scientist, Tim Berners-Lee, invented World Wide Web and created Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) that establish links. 1.2.2 Development of social networks Social networks evolved since the internet technology was first developed in the 1960s. One of the first online communities was Usenet, which was created by Duke University graduate students, Tom Truscott and Jim Ellis. Usenet was similar to a discussion forum where students can share their opinions and suggestions. In 1984, similar method of online interaction called Bulletin Board System (BBS) was introduced. Later, the emergence of social networks rocketed with the invention of World Wide Web by a British scientist, Tim Berners-Lee, in 1991. One of the most dominant social networks in the history, Friendster, was founded by Jonathan Abrams and launched in 2003. Along with Friendster, LinkedIn and MySpace also become popular in their respective fields. After 2003, the social networks become so popular that, by the time Facebook was launched in 2006, the Internet users had more than two hundred social networks to choose from. Nowadays, Facebook is regarded as the most successful social network with over 1.06 billion monthly active users, 680 million mobile users, more than 50 million pages and 10 million apps. (April, 2013 data) 2. Advantages of social networks 2.1 Education Field In the survey conducted by Pew Internet Projects research, it showed that 67% of online adults use social networks. This data describes the fact that social networks can be used to improve the education of adults and students since they already have certain influence on the learners. The main advantage is that students can further explore topics that they are interested in by using online social networking since they may have limited resources and time in school. Apart from that, for adults with unique interests, it is not easy to find friends with same interest to chat or discuss with. However, social networks link these people with the ones with same passion, where they can interact with people from different parts of the world. On the other hand, teachers can take the advantage of studentsà ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢ social networking abilities to create discussion forums, class blogs and online teaching. Such collaboration between students and teachers, acting social networks as a medium, can help the students gain opportunities to cover knowledge in a wider area and pursue interest. Schools also use social networks as an intermediate to keep in touch with students. Certain networks such as Facebook, Moodle, Secondlife, Digg and other networks are often used by teachers to connect with students and to hold out-of-classroom discussions. So, it is quite obvious that several advantages are observed for the impact of social networks on the education field. 2.2 Business Field Social networking takes place online where people meet and share ideas, recommendations and experiences. So, it is similar to a non-stopping communication with a broad audience through a variety of platform or sites. This is one of the factor that the organizations are interested in social media since they can get different kinds of suggestions and feedbacks from people. Many companies use social networks such as Twitter and Facebook to connect with customers and prospective clients. This leads to a golden opportunity for job seekers to learn more about the organization and easily connect with people who work there. Job seekers can become acquainted with the ones working, through these social media, and once they achieve strong presence on these networks, it becomes feasible to reach the people with the authority to hire an employee. Different kinds of social networks convey effective ways to find jobs. One can search about the company in Google by simply typing the name of that company. Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare are excellent social networks to be able to interact with the people who work in the organization. If lucky, one can meet with a recruiting agent and have some conversation and discussions which could increase the chance to get the job. Moreover, ones profile can be distributed on the social networks, which will increase the probability of getting the job. Mariam Salpeter, the founder of Keppie Careers suggests that, Creating an online presence allows hiring managers, recruiters, colleagues and friends to know more about you, what you offer and what you want. Its a way to draw jobs to you instead of you spending your time searching the jobs (Salpeter,2011,p.75) One of the most important thing to point out the impact of social networks on business field is, social media marketing. By acting social networks as stepping stones, social media marketing can gain a lot of benefits including relationship building, brand building, publicity, promotions and so on. So, it can be concluded that social media marketing proposes several opportunities for entrepreneurs, small businesses, midsize companies and large corporations to build their brands and business. (Gunelius,2011) 3. Disadvantages of social networks 3.1 Crime Highlighting the benefits of social networks, it doesnÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢t necessarily means that there are no drawbacks in them. Recently, online crime which is also known as Cybercrime, proposes an increasing threat to all the internet users. This includes online sexual exploitation and cyber bullying. One of the main problems to eradicate cybercrime is that it is hard to identify the offender and it is almost impossible to keep full-time surveillance in such a wide network. 3.1.1 Online sexual exploitation One of the most aggressive forms of cybercrime is the online sexual exploitation. This includes sharing pornography, persuading for sex and sex chat. There are over 665000 registered convicted sex offenders in the United States of America, according to a study commissioned by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This means that one in every seven kids has been approached by a sexual predator online. That is 13% of children who use the internet. Moreover, the Center for Sex Offender Management (CSOM) mentioned that the average sex offender offends for 16 years before he is finally caught. In that life span, he has committed and average of 318 offenses and violated 110 victims. Regarding these data, it can be clearly seen that online sexual exploitation has been destroying the lives of children who use social networks. (Hoffman,2012) 3.1.2 Cyber bullyingCyber bullying is different from face to face bullying as the bullies cannot be identified easily and they have sense of security that convinces them they wont get caught. Not knowing the harm that they caused to victim, the bullies do not feel any guilt or empathy. Cyber bullying is also a form of cybercrime which include different branches. The most common type is called harassment, where the abusive and insulting messages are repeatedly sent to the victim. Other kinds of cyber bullying such as flaming, denigration, impersonation, outing, trickery, and exclusion are also found in the world of social networks. The most crucial way is called cyberstalking which fuel up harassment with significant threats and creates fear. Please refer to Appendix 4 (p- ) for different forms of cyber bullying. 3.2 Addiction to social networks Social networks, being used as a form of assistant in the field of education, also show negative impacts on students. One of these impacts is addiction to the networks. A survey done by the University of Marylands International Center for Media the Public Affairs (ICMPA) showed that people under the age of 25 have more chance to addict social networks and two-third of the students who use social media have already shown some addiction. Fifty percent of people between the age of 25 and 35, admitted that they are so attached to social networks that they even use them during office hours. Besides, children can also become attached to social media, if there is no parental guidance. 4. Influence on people in the future 4.1 Positive Influence Apart from the negative aspects of social networks, there are some occasions that they can influence peoples lives positively in the future. One of these influences is that people will obtain more convenient ways of living. Holding meetings and discussion forums using social networks will make time for the busy business-men to spend more time with their family. Online shopping will reduce the time consuming of housewives, when they can do other house chores. Moreover, students can have online learning days where they can interact with people from different parts of the world and share their ideas and debate issues. The next fact is that social networks will help people to be able to keep in touch with the developing world. This includes sharing latest news, stock share prices and gold prices. Since social networks become available on mobile phones during these days, people will always be informed with the current news of the world. Last but not least, some experts of social networking want to advance it to the stage of communication where it can replace telephone. So far, social networking sites such as Google, Facebook and Skype became major media for oversea communication. Scientists of social networks believe that they can create new communication technology that could possibly replace mobile phones in the future. 4.2 Negative Influence Although the social networks can conduct many positive influences, they impose negative ones at the same time. The major drawback is that people may start to lose physical communication and interaction in the real world. For example, two people become best friends online but they do not talk to each other in the real world. Besides, there will be no conversation between partners in the job as the systems are computer control and they can communicate by simply typing some words in chat box. The second influence is the case of students and children. While students can gain knowledge when they use social networks, they can also face with threats and online hazards. Most people believe that cyber crime rate will increase in the future as the criminals can manipulate different ways and methods of crimes in such a world with over 300 social networking sites. On the other hand, there is possibility that people, especially between the age of 15 and 25, will become more addicted to social networks in the future. Moreover, since social networks start to focus their websites on entertainment and business commercials rather than on education, people may spend more of their time on the networks instead of reading or doing physical exercises. Spending over time on social networks is not favourable to health also because when one is using the networks, he or she is doing nothing but sitting in front of a screen or lying on a sofa. 5. Data collection and analysis 5.1 User statistics According to a survey conducted in 2013, Facebook is the most successful social network, obtaining 67% of internet users. Twitter and Pineterst, which stand at second and third positions, have 16% and 15% of users respectively. The researches and surveys describe that women are more attached to the networks than man do. Besides, the researches point out that people between the age of 35 to 44 are most likely to use social networks. This is followed by the age group of 25-34 and 0-17. People over 65 have the least potential to use the networks. 5.2 Mini-survey results To be able to observe accurate and latest data, I conducted a mini-survey which included 100 people, varying age between 15 and 35, from different parts of the world. This survey contained telephone interviewing, emailing and paper distribution. (Please refer to Appendix 3 (p ) Survey on Social Network After analysing all the answers and data, the result came out that 75% of people use at least one kind of social networks and 25% of them use two or more. Among those who use social networks, 20% of people use less than one hour and the remaining use more than two hours per day. They do not usually use two hours straight away. Instead, they check their profiles on networks while going to school or job, having lunch and going back home. Integrating these times with the actual time they use the networks, probably during their leisure hours, the result came out to be two hours per day or more. Most people assumed that being in touch with friends and receiving information as a benefit while they regard low security in privacy and online bullying as major drawbacks. In weighing the advantages and disadvantages, 65% said using social networks is advantageous while the remaining percentage believed that there are more disadvantages to encounter with. However, most people, about 80%, said that they enjoy with their current usage of social networks since they are like tools to refresh their mind after working for a long time or to browse around when they feel bored. 6. Recommendation After analysing all the advantages and disadvantages of social networks, the organizations which specify their interest in social media, came up with several recommendation concerning with the usage of social networks. Firstly, parents must check their childrenÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s profile regularly and explain about cybercrimes. This will make children to be familiar with the ways of approaching of cyber predators and parents can take precautions for their children. Secondly, one should not accept friend requests if the person is not an acquaintance in the real world. Besides, one should not share personal information such as address, telephone number and email address in social networking sites. Lastly, if someone is bullied or harassed, he or she should report to the authorities of respective social networking sites and contact police when serious threats are made. 7.
